Warning: Spoilers
I just watched the first part released on Netflix, and it was horrible.I have been a fan of Saint Seiya since my childhood, and this new show from Netflix lacks a soul. The director and writers doesn't seems to have any kind of love or passion for the original Saint Seiya.
They didn't just changed Shun into a woman, they also changed many characters' personality on this new series. They tried to create some kind of new story, mixing classic scenes/moments from the original Saint Seiya, and it resulted in a very rushed story without much connection with each scene. Sometimes it was also kind disrespectful with the lore of the original Saint Seiya. This new world that the writers created for this Saint Seiya lacks a lot of consistency. Since the release of the Lost Canvas, Saint Seiya's fans haven't seem much good quality production of this franchise, which is really a pity. (Omega's story and production was pretty bad, the movie released some years ago also had it's story rushed, and the new Saintia Shou's series was a very cheap production). I really wish they could make a new season of the Lost Canvas using the same studio and crew who worked on the first seasons, instead of making this unnecessary reboots and cheap productions. For true Saint Seiya's fans, I recommend to stay away from this one.

Dumb, sanitized, Americanized, likely homophobic take on Saint Seiya. They should have not called it Saint Seiya if they only want to borrow the design characters and some scenes off the manga but getting the whole world view wrong or Americanized.
As if characters can't be grey, KotZ (not going to call it Saint Seiya) split Mitsumasa Kido into two characters, one good while another evil. The evil one is a military guy who doesn't believe in superstitions but want to use technology to take the power of the gods. ..wait, is this guy supposed to represent America? The theme of science/technology/rationality vs gods/magic/supernatural is to me clearly American. And even here it got Saint Seiya wrong: where as Cosmo in Saint Seiya is natural power that exists in every being, now Cosmo seems to be a supernatural power. Freak of nature. Unnatural. Totally different philosophy than original StS. Also, they changed an iconic feminine, stereotype-breaking male character into a stereotypical token female character. Is it to avoid showing tender moments between two men like between Hyouga and Shun later? Or is it because the writer only understands stereotypes and can't accept a feminine male character who wears pink?

I love the originals, I am a big fan, got all the collector knignts from bandai, got all the books, but this!? Why why? I painfully went through the first season. They twistes everything and made it Disney friendly. I do not recomend this to anyone sane and loving ifnthe original story. I wish I can rate u negatively, 1 star because I can't give less.

Worst. dialogue. ever.
My wife loved the original. But we couldn't even get through episode 2. They literally narrate everything they do, including describing the gestures their own hands are making as they make them. It's so on the nose, literal and leaves nothing to the imagination. For example, a snippet of conversation during battle with a bad guy: 'I think I'm stronger, faster and smarter than you. That is why I will am continuing to fight you. Oh no, you are using your hands to make an 8 pointed star in a power attack. Oh no, I must get out of the way. Don't go near your attack. I do not believe what you are saying. Oh no, what you just said is true and I believe it now'

Me, as a huge, huge, huge fan (because its my favorite serial of all time and I have something very deep with this from my childhood). Right now I am a filmmaker and a screenwriter for almost 20 years and I have to say this. The problem with this new version its the complete lack of understanding of MELODRAMA. Yes, the way Knights of the Zodiac works is MELODRAMA. It is a like a MEXICAN TELENOVELA (if you hire a mexican producer of Televisa of the 90´s. This would be a masterpiece). Yes I know the story you are making its the same as it was in the 90´s but without all the elements of MELODRAMA that generates emotions in people (where are those super extreme close-ups? the elements of secrecy? the elements of anticipation? surprise? building tension moment by moment with revelations? They dont have to be even credible (because it is not realism or naturalism, it is a MELODRAMA). In every single chapter characters cry (until they dont have any more water in their body), they fight for friendship for the ones they love even if they have to spill the last drop of blood in their body and they dont care to die and suffer so much pain (that why its extremely bloody 'but it has a reason that works' Knights of the Zodiac are MESIANIC HEROES 'they die to save the other like Jesus Christ'). There is no series that have made me cry more than Knights of the Zodiac. Mix MELODRAMA (which is the exaggeration of reality in order to produce emotions) with a deep understanding of friendship (to die for them 'EXAGERATION, EXAGERATION, EXAGERATION!!!'). In Knights of the Zodiac fights are very short (they are just a climax), they take a lot of time building anticipation. Knights of the Zodiac are extremely sad, and characters (that you love) they die and you cry for them!!!!!. But at the same time they give you hope and they make you want to be the best friend in the world. I am sorry, but without the elements of Melodrama, the serial wont work. Another comment, the music is horrible, it doesnt generate anything (but I am not going to talk about it because I am not an expert), but Knights of the Zodiac had an amazingly excellent soundtrack. Well, lets see what happens in the next episodes.

I have been a fan of Saint Seiya since the original version came out and I was looking forward to this show. Instead, this show was just garbage. From Shun transforms into a woman (guess what, he dresses in pink! Of course, he turned to a woman, duh! -.-) to the art concept was horrendous, even the plot can't save us from ameliorating the show. It just American, nonsensical version of Saint Seiya, like the Death Note. I would give -5 stars if I could.

Very bad remake. Saint Seiya is a legendary anime. It has created a wonderful memory for me. The producer is clearly under qualify and does not understand why children/people around the world love this anime. Helicopter, generic dark saint, cartoon like CGI, underwhelming fight scene etc. These characters are legendary. You change it's name to some generic name.

I watched it knowing it was a remake targeted for children, but what they've done is way worse. This is garbage, boring and confused, the plot is a complete mess. The americanization of the original story is irritating, a shady army general with choppers and special military teams is the villain against the Knights that have now become marvelian superheroes in the flattest way. Seiya keeps on saying stupid jokes in very anticlimactic moments. the animations are horrible, I've seen PS2 games done better.I can't save ANYTHING from this badly done pile of crap, not even the cover version they've done of the original, glorious theme 'Pegasus Fantasy'. Even that one came out cheap.

Warning: Spoilers
My roomie and I binged this series this morning. As each episode's only about 22 minutes long, it took about two hours.
I kind of want those two hours back. Other shows like Dragon Prince, the new Voltron series, and the rebooted She-Ra manage to pack a lot of story and plot in short episodes. This series feels like there are missing episodes, like it should have been 8 or 12 episodes, and every other episode has been misplaced. The animation style's okay, and fairly fluid, and the voice acting is.. okay, I guess? With good actors, you can forget they're acting. Everything came across as slightly stilted, and there was a lot of verbalized exposition from characters explaining things that were very obvious. And then there's Shaun. Okay. I watched the original show as a child in the early 90s, and while I don't remember a lot, one of the things I have vivid memories of is the character of Shun. I was all of 8 or 9, and I remember being confused as to why Shun was a boy, when he was so pretty. Then I realized that meant boys could be pretty, and that it was okay that *I* wanted to be pretty. I also loved how he was pacifistic and preferred not to fight, because I also didn't want to fight. The character also had a romantic relationship in the original series with another male character, which ALSO let me know that boys could love boys. This meant a lot to me as I struggled with both sexuality and gender. As my older brother is gay, I suspect this is why we watched the series. In the new show, Shun has been replaced by a doppelganger, Shaun, who looks very similar, but is a woman. The problem with this is that Shun's character was subverting gender stereotypes by placing a feminine soul in a male body. By making the character a girl, all you've done is lean into tropes about women being delicate things who can't really fight. Had they really wanted to challenge stereotypes and make a knight a girl, there were other knights they could have chosen and it not mattered. I'm not going to cry that my childhood is ruined, like others may have, but I'm sad that a new generation of kids, gay, straight, trans or non-binary all have been robbed of a potential rolemodel that ironically MY generation had. They decided to straightwash a queer coded character and a queer relationship, which makes no sense with Netflix, who are a very Queer positive company. Look at the Voltron series! Combined with all the other issues, the disjointed storytelling, etc.. I'm not expecting to see this show get a second season.

Warning: Spoilers
I will try to judge this series as objectively as I can, since I already watched the original Saint Seiya and therefore my conclusion could be biased by that, so let's compare this cartoon (not anime) with other series we know. I will try to stay spoiler free.
Story The story has inspiration in the well known manga and anime of similar name. This is as far as it goes: just resemblance. Netflix's Kights of the Zodiac is full of the worst kind of american cliches (the same kind of cliches that the Transformers franchise is now known for). The heroes suddenly realize they have super powers, there is no hard training or anything, it happens in a rather anti-climatic way. As usual, the american superhero has to face bullies at the beginning of his career (and this is usually how he/she figures out he/she has super powers, being no different for this series). The protagonists always have something the army wants (super powers, technology, knowledge) and therefore the army has to run after the main heroes (this concept loosely translates to this series). The comedy is as dull and silly as it can go in a silly american cartoon or comedy show (something so out of tone and devoided of intelect that even hurt my brain). The whole ting is so full of one-liners that one completely looses the hype while watching (I know, in America one-liners are considered cool, but I just cannot stand this). Soundtrack The whole soundtrack is very generic. The opening is a bit better than the usual american dubbing of an anime opening, but still pretty bad. If one compares it to any of the previous iterations of this song released over the years for different anime of the same franchise, this is by far the very worst. Not only the opening is uninspiring, but the soundtrack as a whole is pretty lame. Voice acting The american voice acting is not really good. Sometimes they deliver it with the needed feeling, but most of the time it feels like a robot is reading the script. The animation of the mouth also does not fit the dialogue, and it just looks pretty bad and disturbing (I have seen old CG animations doing way better, like Beast Wars transformers). Graphics/animation The first thing that called my attention is that they called it an anime. I was pretty surprised by that, because it is not 2D, there is no anime drawing in it, and overall it lacks quality. Some scenes look like Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. Actually the heroes' faces do resemble the creepy trains' faces in some scenes. The animation is, however, fluid enough. It is by far not as good as Star Wars Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels, but it is ok, specially for kids below 10 years old. Battles Here comes the worst part for something based on a Shounen: the battles are pretty bad. They are short, rushed and generic. Saint Seiya is well know for having very unique characters with very unique techniques and choreographies (each of these techniques having a specific effect, like freezing, poisoning, blinding and so on), but this time they decided to make it closer to a general american super-hero cartoon and have everyone shooting balls of energy. These generic moves just detract the whole beauty of the franchise and really add nothing to an already too-short battle scene. The sound effects during the battles are also pretty unsuitable. Character development This is probably the worst part. The series sometimes makes it look like we have the same generic character in different skins. There is not much of personality in any of the main characters, in contrast to the source material. There are a few character that stand out, however, and they are Pegasus and Phoenix. Andromeda, now a girl (in contrast to the efeminate male in the source material), is just a fragile and pacifist girl that does not like to fight. This basically makes the gender bending unjustifiable, she is just a very stereotypical female character that need protection from the males and reinforces the idea that males should be strong and females should be fragile. I therefore see no point for someone to waste time on this. Maybe it will work for very young kids, but the bits of blood will make parents think twice. I still think that Saint Seiya Omega, regardless of its failures, is a better introduction for younger fans, and the original animation (which didn't age greatly but still looks decent nowadays) is a much better and entertaining anime if you are older than 10 y.o. and looking for a new anime to watch. If you want a 'boy gets superpowers and starts an adventure' cartoon, I would rather recommend Ben 10, it also has lots of cliches, but at least it is well executed.

Honestly, we hit rock bottom. The whole myth of the franchise, the tragedy, the emotion has just disappared from this show. And even if we compare it to modern animes or recent mangas, it's awfully lame.
It goes way to fast and you don't have the time to fall in love with any of the characters. There is no emotion and the acting is terribly bad. The aesthethics of the saint attacks are skecthy. You may be a 6 years old chlid and still realise that the show is quite boring.I underline the fact that children of that age are not particulary demanding on the quality of the TV show.

I didn't watch the previous series. I watched the Netflix animation and I was pretty ok with the animation style, but the story has a serious problem.
The plot is driven by a prophecy that says that the heroes won't be able to save the world. For this reason, everyone decides that the best thing to do is to kill the heroes before they fail! What!? Yes! If the heroes won't protect the world from destruction (a pretty empty world, by the way, with no people whatsoever), then we kill them and everything gets destroyed anyway, but at least they won't lose.. This is the most stupid plot I have ever seen! Besides, even though this is a very unoriginal super hero series, the heroes basically genocide hundreds of soldiers. If their goal is to save people, they have failed miserably. There is a whole nonsensical scene where they fight an army and they just kill everyone without mercy (they at least don't show the soldiers burning, so that we won't get traumatized by this). What kind of lesson for children is this supposed to be? You can kill as many people you want as long as no one sees them dying? What kind of psychopath wrote this script? There is also a lot of inconsistencies and plot holes in the story overall. The jokes are very silly (painfully silly) and the main characters become best friends in like 5s after being attacked, even though they were all fighting against each other and hating each other right before they got their backs kicked. And this fake friendship is what wins in the end? Seriously? These characters are truly psychopaths. Maybe there is a plot twist in the end and we realize thy are all hallucinating together in a mental hospital.

All scenes look similar to the original, that's lets say.. fine. for fans.. but the characters all so empty, so badly rigged, animated, the effects look completely cheap, it's really ridiculous...I was very happy when I saw the news one week ago..Really disappointing.

Warning: Spoilers
I am a die hard fan of the original Saint Seiya(Saints Netflix, not Knights!), but I didn't come in expecting much from this show. However, Netflix somehow managed to not even meet my subpar standard, how that is possible I have no clue. My hypest moment during this was the first time I hard the opening, happy that they at least kept their opening similar to the original.
The story has a few changes from the original run like the original 5 not being orphans that were trained to become saints at a early age and for some reason they change Shun to a girl named Shaun and Siryu to Long(wtf) but there are no huge changes. However instead of being orphans who were trained from a young age to be protectors of the next Athena, it's turned into the most generic of 80's cartoon cliches. The pacing is terrible, the voice acting is hammed in, I mean I got the best enjoyment out of a manhole! The nicest thing I have to say about Netflix's Saint Seiya is that it looks better than that crappy movie, a feat no one should be proud of. Watching this has made me rethink just how bad Power Rangers Megaforce is, or for my anime fans The Wisemans Grandson, because they actually tried to deliver a show. All in all, 6 episodes, all rushed, all boring except for my homie the Manhole Saint. The only reason this is getting a star is cause I'm required to, the rating is this will make you look at Boku no Pico as an actual show with a deep storyline, enough said. Think of something you hated watching, it's better than this.

rfernand23 July 2019
What took 16 or so episodes in the original anime is compressed to 6 in the remake, sacrificing much needed detail and character development. Seiya's character remains underdeveloped (a missed opportunity for this remake), and fan favorites such as Shiryu, Ikki, and Hyoga are reduced to uninteresting two dimensional plot devices. The dialogue is far worse.
The animation has a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse feel that doesn't quite fit the source material (contrast with the much superior work done in the Netflix adaptation of Castlevania). There are also inexplicable commercial break tags. The cloths are more portable, which seems to be the only attempt at innovation. The nostalgia factor may draw you in, but make no mistake: this is not in the same league as the DuckTales revival. This is a show with nothing new to say, and plenty of old to miss.

It is not an exaggeration saying this is the worst show I've watched all year, probably the last 5 years. You could tell in the first seconds. Yes I grew up on Saint Seiya, the old-school animations are unbeatable that is why Hayao Miyasaki still delivers the best animations, that is why Season 1 of One Punch Man delivers. This is a stupidly six-episode exploitation from Netflix. 3DCG is the new way of making cheap, easy, and quick mediocrity. No one cared to even polish the ghetto looks; the story is complete rubbish. So it's the same story we've seen a thousand times, a person betrays and tries to steal the armor and out heroes face him. The twist here is that our protagonists are fighting black ops men with assault rifles set in modern day, big WTF! It is a lazy charade by the writers who didn't want to put in time and research on old Greek and even Roman mythology and history. It is feeding off our childhood and wanting to attract modern kids who will drool over anything proclaiming to be 'new'.Gosh darn-it I honestly feel sick to my stomach and hope there's no follow-up season.
